Perkiomen School has named Harry Morra as Head Coach of the Boys National Basketball Team.
Morra comes to Perkiomen with more than 20 years of athletic experience, most recently as the Associate Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Lehigh University. During his eight years as an assistant Coach, the Mountain Hawks played in three Patriot League Championship games and accumulated double-figure league victories during six out of eight seasons.
“Perkiomen is the perfect next step for my career and family,” says Morra. “The community values student-athlete development, relationships, and building a growth mindset. I look forward to connecting with the athletes and the coaches as soon as possible.”
After graduating from DeSales University, where Morra was a four-year player and two-year captain of the men’s basketball team, he played for and then coached the Belfast Star of the Sea, a member of the 12-team Irish Superleague. He also worked with PeacePlayers International, a global non-profit using the sport of basketball to bring together children in divided communities.
While pursuing his graduate degree in International Education at Lehigh University, Morra was the Men's Basketball Video Coordinator during the Mountain Hawks’ historic basketball season in 2011-12, which included a Patriot League championship and a first-round NCAA tournament win over the Duke Blue Devils.
He went on to coach at DeSales University where he designed and executed a recruiting strategy for men’s basketball, helping them earn two Regular Season Championships, two Freedom Tournament Championships, and three NCAA Tournament wins.
Morra returned to Lehigh in 2015, where he has since recruited 80% of the men’s basketball roster, leading to a record of 117-116 under his leadership.
Morra has been recognized by Silver Waves Media as one of the 50 most impactful assistant coaches in Men’s NCAA Division 1 Basketball. He has worked with several All-American players, including CJ McCollum, Darnell Braswell, and Tim Kempton. Morra also brings a strong background in student-athlete development and community building.
“We are excited for Harry to join the Perkiomen community,” says Director of Athletics Mike Kruger. “His background as a basketball coach speaks for itself, but his character and commitment to building relationships really stood out in the hiring process. We look forward to our basketball program’s continued success under Harry’s leadership.”
Morra begins working on campus with the National Team next week, as they prepare for the Mid-Atlantic Independent School Showcase 2024 (Live Period). He is eager to add his perspective and expertise to a school with such a long tradition and history of athletic competition and student-athlete preparation.
“Perkiomen Basketball has succeeded on a national level, and I look forward to continuing that success through a blue-collar approach to player and team development and recruiting motivated student-athletes,” says Morra. “Most of all, I can't wait to help these young men achieve their goals after Perkiomen."
Optimism and passion will be at the forefront for our coaching staff and players. The Panthers will be aggressive on offense and defense. On offense, we will share it and shoot it. On defense, we will be ALL IN on every possession. Perkiomen Basketball will be fun to watch. -- Harry Morra, Head Coach, National Basketball
