Jacob WellsHead Coach
Jacob Wells teaches history and is the Head Cross Country and Track and Field coach.
Coach Wells comes to Perkiomen from Scottsdale, Arizona where he taught and coached at BASIS Scottsdale for 6 years. He was the founder of the cross country team at the school and coached cross country and track for a total of four years. He was named Track and Field Coach of the Year in 2019 for both the Men’s and Women’s teams, and in 2021 for the Women’s team. Coach Wells is a graduate of the University of Alabama where he earned his B.A. in History. He also earned his M.A. in History from Washington State University and is currently a candidate for his Ph.D. in Psychology from Grand Canyon University. In college, he ran cross country as well as played volleyball.
Coach Wells shares what he is excited about for the year: “I am looking forward to bringing my coaching experience to a school with a rich history of athletics and cannot wait to build the running programs at Perkiomen”
Matthew WilligAssistant Coach
Matthew Willig is a science teacher and is an Assistant Coach for both Cross Country and Track and Field.
Coach Willig was previously a Graduate Student Instructor at the University of Michigan (’21) where he also earned his M.S. in Environment and Sustainability as well as Education Studies. He is also a graduate of Haverford College (’18) with his B.S. in Geology. He was a member of the Cross Country as well as Indoor and Outdoor Track teams during all four years at Haverford.
Coach Willig shares what he is looking forward to this year: “I am so excited to be starting my coaching career here at Perkiomen! The student-athlete experience is all about finding synergies between athletic and academic success and I’m really looking forward to helping our runners find that balance. It’s a tough sport but the relationships and the community you build as a team are for life. Go Panthers!”
